Welcome! Discussed in this blog, will be the amazing anime: Violet Evergarden. Violet Evergarden is a Slice of Life, Drama, and Fantasy anime series that first aired back in 2018. The anime itself is only 13 episodes, but each and every episode is jam-packed with so much emotion and feeling! I would certainly recommend the series to anyone, it’s definitely one of the first I’d recommend. Following the anime, a spin-off movie was released in 2019. The movie is titled Violet Evergarden: Eternity and The Auto Memories Doll. Another movie was supposed to air this year (2020), but the date got pushed to the beginning of 2021.
Violet Evergarden was adapted by the studio, Kyoto Animation. Kyoto Animations, also known as KyotoAni, has produced many well-known anime and anime movies. Here are a few of the many great productions by KyotoAni; A Silent Voice, Clannad, Kyoukai no Kanata, and Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! Violet Evergarden, unlike most anime, does not have a manga, and instead has a light novel. The light novel was written by Kana Akatsuki and illustrated by Akiko Takase. There are 4 volumes to the light novel.
Violet Evergarden revolves around a girl (Violet Evergarden) used as a tool for war, she was extremely helpful playing a part in the war. But after one last battle, the war was resolved and she woke up in an infirmary. Being under the military, she immediately asked for orders from Major Gilbert. Emotion was a foreign subject to Violet and she never had much of an opinion or thought on topics. She was only a tool, and people treated her as such.
Violet is an orphan and grew up for the sole reason of being a destructive military weapon. So after the war ended, she didn’t have much purpose. Ex Lieutenant Colonel Claudia Hodgins (quit after the war) decided to bring Violet to his newly established postal service: CH Postal Company. There, the postmen/women deliver letters and also help customers write their letters. The ones that help write letters are called Auto Memories Dolls, they listen to the content wanted in the letter and help rephrase and express their emotions on paper. After introducing Violet to that compartment, she remembers the last words she heard from Major Gilbert: I love you.
Having never experienced emotions nor understanding love, Violet wants to become an Auto Memories Doll to understand those words. And from there, Violet goes on a journey to grasp how feelings are interpreted and conveyed.
Now here, I’ll express my opinions on Violet Evergarden. And I’ve got two words to sum it all up; ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING!! The art is truly magnificent and the story certainly compliments along with the amazing art. Although the anime is only 13 episodes, each and every installment was worth watching. Now if you enjoy watching Slice of Life and emotional kinds of anime, I would undoubtedly recommend watching this! I would also recommend watching ‘Your Lie in April’ if you enjoyed this anime!
